Taiba Hospital proudly announces the contribution of Dr. Ahmad Fadel Al-Shatti, Consultant of Internal Medicine and Structural Interventional Cardiology, in the successful treatment of approximately ten complex cases of pulmonary embolism at the Salman Al-Dabbous Cardiac Center at Adan Hospital. These challenging cases were managed using advanced techniques, including Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), a life-support treatment that provides cardiac and respiratory assistance to patients whose heart and lungs are severely compromised. Dr. Al-Shatti explained that catheter-directed therapy was the primary approach employed in these cases, tailored to each patient’s clinical condition. These patients were referred from multiple institutions, including Sabah Hospital and Farwaniya Hospital, underscoring the collaborative effort within Kuwait’s healthcare sector to provide specialized care.A significant milestone highlighted by Dr. Al-Shatti is the establishment of the Pulmonary Embolism Response Team (PERT) at Adan Hospital. This specialized rapid response unit represents a breakthrough in the management of acute pulmonary embolism. Dr. Al-Shatti noted that traditional treatment often relies on thrombolytic therapy (clot-dissolving medication). However, for patients at high risk of bleeding, the PERT unit offers a safer alternative, enabling local anesthesia-based interventions within the catheterization lab at Al-Dabbous Center.Taiba Hospital commends Dr. Al-Shatti’s expertise and dedication, which showcase the excellence and leadership of Kuwaiti medical professionals in advancing specialized treatment options and improving patient outcomes. His work reflects Taiba Hospital’s commitment to supporting pioneering healthcare solutions and enhancing the quality of care across Kuwait’s medical landscape.
